Lotus Spring: A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Exhibition Hall by Jianjing Cai - TRD Merges Chinese Liquor and Hakka Culture

Lotus Spring, an exhibition hall designed by Jianjing Cai - TRD, is a unique blend of traditional Chinese liquor and Hakka culture with modern aesthetics. This award-winning design is a testament to the power of cultural heritage in shaping contemporary design.

The inspiration for Lotus Spring came from the designer's mission to help modern people understand and appreciate traditional Chinese liquor culture and Hakka culture. The design is a stark, simplified interpretation of these cultures, combining static and dynamic elements in a gentle and soft manner. The result is a new Chinese style that is both respectful of tradition and appealing to modern aesthetics.

What sets Lotus Spring apart is its unique combination of traditional Chinese culture and modern decorative design techniques. The exhibition hall, located at the headquarters of Lianquan Liquor Co., Ltd., is rich in traditional Chinese culture but also aligns with modern aesthetics. It effectively conveys the spirit and product characteristics of the Lianquan enterprise.

The design was realized using a palette of black, white, gray, and original wood color. A large number of surfaces are decorated with Chinese ink landscape painting or left blank white in the form of Hui Style, a Chinese architectural style. The use of green brick, culture stone, and wood further enhances the natural aesthetic of the space. The exhibition hall also features a "lotus spring" combination chandelier, a bridge over water, and several Taihu stone displays holding the Lotus Spring's flagship products.

The project spans two floors, with the exhibition hall on the first floor and office and rest space on the second. Each floor measures 28.32 meters in length and 25.59 meters in width, with a total area size of 1450 square meters. The first floor is 4.71 meters high and the second floor is 3.5 meters high.

Despite challenges such as the aesthetic difference between traditional culture and modern lifestyle, time pressure, and budget constraints, the design team was able to create a space that is both artistically high-quality and cost-effective. The Lotus Spring Exhibition Hall is a testament to the power of design in bridging the gap between tradition and modernity.

The design was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations. This recognition underscores the design's extraordinary excellence and its significant impact on the world of design.
